Obama - Hope for our environment

President-elect Obama. With sensitive leadership, there is hope to recover our environment. Our economy is dashed, but perhaps with a renewed sense of vigor, we can address our environmental concerns and at the same time help revive our economy through many new jobs in the energy research and technology fields. If we start moving in the right direction, recovery is certainly possible. Our fossil fuel obsession can be ended with strong leadership from Obama.
Perhaps, he can re-invigorate our commitment to environmental action. We can democratize our energy system and begin to reverse the impacts of dramatic climate change.
We will need to undergo meaningful, thoughtful debate about our environmental priorities and then develop long-range action plans to address the most pressing problems. Lets be proud of our heritage and create a sustainable environment for generations to come.
According to Obama’s proposals, we will implement an economy-wide cap-and-trade program to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 80 percent by 2050. The Obama cap-and-trade policy will require all pollution credits to be auctioned. The proceeds will be applied to investments in a clean energy future, habitat protection and rebates and other relief for Americans.
If oil prices continue to increase, under a federal system that puts a cap on the carbon that oil companies introduce into the environment, they would be forced to buy credits to emit permitted amounts and the revenue from the credits would be returned to other parts of our society to help offset the higher energy costs.
